Product Insert Helper
The Seattle Times, the Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper, is looking for a reliable Product Insert Helper to join our Operations team. Commonly called an “Insert Helper” in the print industry, this hands-on role assists with inserting advertising materials, supplements, comics, and other printed materials directly into newspapers. This role requires focused attention throughout repetitive production work and maintaining a steady work pace to support daily newspaper distribution.
This role is well-suited for someone looking to supplement their income while picking up a few weekend shifts.
Schedule: This is a part-time position, requiring approximately 10 hours per week (or more as needed) to cover one or both Saturday shifts. Those include 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and/or 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Responsibilities
- Lift bundles of newspapers and bundles of inserts from pallets, conveyors, or other designated areas and move them on the worktable.
- Arrange newspapers and inserts at the workstation so materials are readily available for production.
- Pick up individual inserts and place them inside the center fold of each newspaper.
- Stack completed newspapers into bundles and lift completed bundles and place them onto the conveyor for the next stage of production or distribution.
- Keep workstation organized and free of unnecessary materials or obstructions.
- Follow established production procedures and work at a pace necessary to maintain the flow of newspapers through the production process.
- Follow safety rules and proper lifting and material-handling practices.
Qualifications
- At least one year’s experience working in a warehouse or production environment is preferred. Willing to train right individuals.
- Reliable and punctual attendance is a requirement for this role.
- Ability to understand and follow basic English verbal and written instructions .
- Comfortable performing repetitive production tasks accurately and consistently in a warehouse environment.
- Able to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Committed to ergonomic and safety requirements.
- Comfortable standing at a worktable while frequently lifting and carrying products up to 25 pounds.
- Able to bend, reach, twist, grasp, and use both hands to handle newspapers, inserts, and bundles.
Compensation: New hires can expect to make $17.76 per hour to start, which is our standard pay rate.
