The Seattle Times, a family-owned, Pulitzer Prize-winning news organization, is looking for an experienced Sr. Application Engineer to lead Azure DevOps projects with AI integrations. In this role, you will support The Seattle Times’ digital and AI transformation by strengthening internal application development and DevOps capabilities. On this team, you can expect to take charge of expanding in-house engineering capacity, improving delivery reliability, and enabling secure adoption of modern and AI driven technologies across newsroom and enterprise operations.
Work Location: this is a remote work opportunity. Finalists must be current or future residents of the Puget Sound region to be considered.
Schedule: while this role works normal business hours (Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), on-call hours are required for 24x7 support on a scheduled rotation.

Compensation: The full salary range for this position is $99,200 to $140,000. We typically pay between $99,200 to $126,400, depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain internal applications using the Microsoft development stack (.NET, C#, SQL) and Python.
- Proficiency in Python for backend development, automation, and integration with Azure AI and data services
- Design, develop, and integrate APIs to enable scalable system integrations and data exchange.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver reliable internal tools while supporting ongoing operational needs.
- Evaluate and pilot AI and automation capabilities using Azure AI Services and Microsoft Copilot.
- Build, enhance, and operate CI/CD pipelines and development workflows using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Apply DevOps best practices, including source control, automated testing, and deployment automation.
- Implement and support secure Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions, including MFA and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Participate in a 24x7 on call rotation to support mission critical systems.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience: Five or more years of experience with Microsoft development stack (.NET, C#, SQL) and Python. Successful applicants will also possess strong DevOps skills with Azure Pipelines or GitHub Actions, Git, and Agile workflows, as well as demonstrated API development experience.
- Prior experience as a Systems Analyst working with systems integration preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information management or equivalent demonstrated work experience.
- Skilled in Identity and Access Management (IAM), including MFA and RBAC Familiarity with DevOps best practices.
- Working knowledge using ANSI SQL and vendor specific dialects, such as T-SQL.
- Experience designing, developing, or operating intelligent agents or agent based workflows that combine code, tools, APIs, and AI models to accomplish multi step tasks.
- Hands-on experience using command-line interfaces (CLI) for development, automation, deployment, and operational troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong facilitation, interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize work, completing daily support responsibilities and project driven tasks in a timely manner.
