The Seattle Times, a family-owned, Pulitzer Prize-winning news organization, is looking for an experienced Advertising Publications Editor to oversee weekly, monthly and periodic newspaper sections and other publications. In this part time role, you will focus on editing content for style and grammar, selecting stories, generating story ideas, writing headlines and cutlines, and preparing digital files for publication via WordPress. Ideally, you are comfortable designing sections and laying out templated pages in InDesign while doing light work in Photoshop. When necessary, you might be asked to support with assigning and coordinating the work of freelance writers, photographers and illustrators, and writing stories when needed.

Please note: this is a remote work opportunity. Finalists must be current or future residents of Washington state to be considered.  



  • Edit content for style, grammar, and fluency.
  • Write headlines and cutlines in preparation for digital use.
  • Select stories in preparation for wires and freelancers.
  • Adhere to deadlines while keeping to standards of quality.
  • Assign and coordinate work of freelance writers, photographers, and illustrators, when needed.
  • Write stories, when needed. 
  • Provide backup for other Publications Editors.

  • Experience: Minimum three years of editing and design experience at a print publication, with some newspaper experience preferred. Training can be provided for motivated candidates.
  • Education: Four-year college degree in journalism or related field required.
  • Excellent editing skills with strong knowledge of AP style and grammar.
  • Ability to develop or select content that appeals to different ages and target audiences.
  • Ability to produce error-free, engaging sections on deadline.
  • Experience with and/or comfort learning WordPress, InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Strong self-motivation and organization skills.
  • Ability to work in a remote environment and maintain robust communication with teammates.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Ability to balance long-range and short-term planning and make efficient decisions while working on deadline.
  • Ability to ensure publications meet brand and journalistic standards.



This part time position is scheduled for 20 hours per week. 


This is a union position and will require regular union dues be paid monthly.
