The Seattle Times, a Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper, is looking for a Facilities Technician to join our Operations team. This position works as part of a team with responsibility for the repair and maintenance of the building, equipment, grounds, and related support systems. This includes repair and maintenance of building envelope and interior infrastructure, as well as support of HVAC, compressed air, humidity system, alarm systems (Fire & Security), and fire suppression systems. They also assist with environmental and safety regulation compliance.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Respond, troubleshoot, and repair system failures or malfunctions as reported by user departments or through work orders.  Address emergencies that arise during the course of the work shift.
  • Operate and maintain operating equipment such as hot water heaters, chillers, air compressors, air handlers, pumps, etc.
  • Installation, repair and maintenance of building envelope and interior infrastructure involving carpentry, drywall, painting, carpet and floor work.
  • Furniture relocation, reconfiguration and repair.
  • Locksmithing and door repair.
  • Operation and maintenance of life safety systems, including response to problems relating to the fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems.  Must be familiar with the layout of the fire sprinkler system, including valve and extinguisher locations.
  • Be knowledgeable and assist with emergency fire alarm, security, and aid car procedures.
  • Order supplies in support of assigned responsibilities.
  • Vendor interaction for pricing and coordination of work.
  • Provide training and guidance to others as needed.
  • May develop processes, procedures, or decision guidelines to facilitate complex workflow.
  • Other duties as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. College or Trade School in Facility Support or related field preferred.
  • Experience: One or more years' experience in building operations and maintenance is required. Willing to train the right individual who demonstrates passion and aptitude.
  • Solid experience in three or more of the major building maintenance disciplines such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, fire detection systems, security systems, etc.)
  • Refrigeration Operating License preferred.   

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong customer service skills and positive customer service attitude.
  • Ability to lift objects of differing weights and shapes weighing up to 50 lbs., occasionally overhead and while working from ladders.
  • Flexible availability and able to work overtime as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Computer literate.
  • Able to work from elevated platforms and ladders.
  • Able to operate forklifts and scissor-lifts.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Able to work in confined spaces as needed.

 

Schedule: This is a full-time, onsite position based at our Kent printing facility in Kent, WA. There may be times where work at our headquarters in South Lake Union is required. Possible evening/weekend work for emergent situations.

 

Compensation: The full salary range for this position is $55,200 to $75,900. We typically pay between $55,200 to $69,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
