Photographer
The Seattle Times, a family-owned news organization and one of the nation’s premier regional news sources, is looking for an experienced Photographer to join our newsroom. This photojournalist will be expected to cover a variety of assignments, from major league sports to spot news to magazine features. This person will also be expected to develop visual story ideas, with a focus on inclusive, community journalism. Being able to quickly chase breaking news, cover sporting events and cover a variety of assignments will be key. This photojournalist will also need the ability to tell stories through video and with innovative online approaches. As we take our credibility very seriously, the ability to gather complete information and write thorough, accurate photo captions and stories is vital.

Responsibilities
- Capture, edit and caption compelling and truthful news photography for The Seattle Times and its products.
- Gather and distribute news video as appropriate and/or assigned.
- Collaborate with reporters and editors to create accurate and engaging visual journalism for print and digital products.
- Maintain the highest ethical standards for photojournalism in all practices.
- Maintain company-provided equipment to retain performance and reliability.
- Conceptualize, pitch and execute on story ideas from daily stand-alone images to medium and long-term projects.
- Select and color-correct/tone images for publication to maximize quality while maintaining journalistic integrity.
- Prioritize inclusivity in coverage, developing a range of sources and story ideas that represent the cultural diversity of the Pacific Northwest.

- Experience: At least three years of professional photojournalism experience within a newsroom.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism/communication or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Must be able to show examples of generating story ideas and publishing stories with an emphasis on inclusive journalism.
- Show experience covering news, sports and a variety of enterprise stories.
- Must demonstrate a commitment to accuracy, including in the writing of captions.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in photography including technical quality, color correction, visual interest, news value, story-telling content, journalistic integrity and creative approaches.
- Proficiency in video creation and production preferred, video gathering with both mirrorless camera systems and phone cameras a must.
- Demonstrate ability to conceptualize, pitch and execute on content from daily enterprise to project stories.
- Must maintain professional and respectful interactions with the public while on a variety of assignments.
- Strong knowledge of online news approaches and social media.
- Strong knowledge of AP style, news judgment and journalistic ethics.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $62,425 to $88,800, depending on experience and qualifications.

Please Note: This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment assessments including a criminal background check, a drug screen for controlled substances (excluding cannabis), and a motor vehicle report once an offer has been made.
