Print Sales Manager
The Seattle Times is seeking an experienced Sales Manager to join our Operations team in Kent, WA!
The Sales Manager will be responsible for managing the print sales operation, including leadership of sales staff, as well as oversight of newsprint procurement. This position is accountable for achieving revenue goals through new business development and account growth, while ensuring operational efficiency and exceptional client service. The successful candidate will use a consultative sales approach and will work closely with internal teams to deliver high-quality print products aligned with the company’s press capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the print sales team to meet or exceed annual revenue goals.
- Develop and execute strategies to grow new business and retain key accounts.
- Use a consultative approach to guide clients in job planning, offering input on design, finish, distribution, and scheduling.
- Attend internal production and scheduling meetings to align sales with operations.
- Collaborate with the estimator on pricing proposals and ensure pricing reflects current material costs.
- Approve final pricing and submit signed proposals and Sales Order forms to the scheduler.
- Coordinate internally to ensure accurate job specifications, paper availability, and press time are confirmed.
- Oversee the invoicing process, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of client billing.
- Manage newsprint usage and procurement; track inventory and coordinate with finance and production teams.
- Gather and respond to client feedback post-production.
- Address billing discrepancies or credits in collaboration with internal departments and make recommendations to the General Manager.
- Foster a high-performance, team-oriented environment that emphasizes accountability and collaboration.
Work Location & Schedule:
This is a hybrid role based out of our Kent, WA office. The Sales Manager is expected to work onsite regularly and will have flexibility to work remotely as business needs allow. This position requires regular travel throughout Washington State, including occasional trips to Eastern Washington (e.g., Walla Walla). The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work as needed to support business activities or customer needs.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred; or 5+ years related experience in print sales and team leadership; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret complex instructions, proposals, and job specifications.
- Ability to write clear, concise correspondence and present information effectively in one-on-one and group settings.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, margins, percentages, and volume.
- Comfort working with cost estimates and production pricing.
- Ability to apply sound judgment and solve practical problems.
- Capable of analyzing operational data and making recommendations to improve performance.
Work Environment: The work environment is a combination of office and production settings. The employee may be occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
Compensation: The full base salary range for this position is $70,500 to $96,900. We typically pay between $70,500 and $88,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for quarterly at-goal incentive pay of $4,500 when performance meets or exceeds goals.
