Newspaper in Education (NIE) Administrator

The Seattle Times, the Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper, is actively seeking an eager, dynamic Newspaper in Education (NIE) Administrator in the Customer Relations department. As the NIE Admin, you will provide oversight of the program, Newspapers in Education System (NES) and NIE websites. In addition, you will be responsible for the analysis of NIE financial and systems data as well as program coordination, including contracted writers. Successful applicants will be able to provide customer service and technical support to NIE educators and Seattle Times subscribers. This position provides lead responsibilities in distribution of Customer Service emails and completion of work schedules, as well as back up to Router, Alt Product Admins, and Customer Service Specialists.



NIE Program Coordination:

  • Provides oversight of Newspapers in Education System (NES) and is the system administrator on behalf of department. Sets up delivery codes, products, programs and rates in NES and manages the NES yearly renewal process
  • Records, posts, summarizes and interprets financial transactions related to NES, Sponsorship, Seattle Foundation and other NIE accounts (Shelters, Senior Centers, NIE Solutions) including managing contracted curriculum writers, invoicing and collection of funds.
  • Generate NIE reports including: Circulation Funding report, statistics, circulation volume and revenue, and communicate regularly with Customer Service manager about fund balances, income forecasts and funding needed.
  • Work with Single Copy Marketing to oversee College Readership program, including yearly contract, setting goals, revising draws, tracking of draw and payment of invoices.
  • Process and submit Seattle Foundation grant requests to the Customer Service Manager for approval.

Customer Service:

  • Assist with phones and cases as needed in Salesforce/Zuora
  • Distributes Customer Service and NIE emails along with other various projects to staff on a daily basis
  • Coordinates staff scheduling with Customer Service manager approvals to cover a seven day a week operation
  • Responsible for having a strong understanding of multiple systems (NES, Teak, Cybersource, Salesforce, SSO, Crystal reporting, Team Q, etc.).
  • Provide critical backup as needed for various positions within Customer Relations



Experience: Three years’ related work experience in similar role.  

Education: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Two-year college degree preferred.

  • Requires strong system aptitude, accounting skills and knowledge of accounting principles. Must possess excellent computer skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including: Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with Salesforce, WordPress or similar programs a plus.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to learn and be proficient on multiple computer systems and platforms.
  • Must possess high analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including telephone and e-mail etiquette.
  • Able to prioritize and still be flexible depending on variables.
  • Must thrive in multi-tasking ability, with strong organizational skills.
